Clinic locations are subject to change based on weather conditions and avalanche risk ratings. Should your clinic be impacted by weather conditions, we will work out an alternative plan with your group and guide.
All clinics held in Garibaldi Provincial Park will require participants to purchase a Backcountry Lift Ticket. You will only be able to purchase a ticket before your clinic through Altus Mountain Guides. Click the following link to purchase:
In order to guarantee your backcountry ticket, you will need to purchase your tickets at a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the clinic date. We will only have a very limited amount of Backcountry Access Tickets onsite at check-in.
All inbounds clinics will require participants to have a Whistler Blackcomb seasons pass or day pass (ie. Edge Card). We are able to offer clinic participants a lift ticket for the day at a discounted rate: $53. If you wish to purchase this discounted ticket, please email: ski@extremelycanadian.com with the following information:
The Duffey Shuttle is being offered as an alternative to having all clinic participants drive so we can limit the amount of vehicle travel to the Duffey and therefor reduce emissions. In an effort to relieve clogging parking lots and to provide alternate transportation options, we recommend booking this shuttle if your clinic is taking place in the Duffey and you don't have the appropriate winter travel vehicle and aren't comfortable driving the Duffey on your own.
The Aava Hotel is The Basecamp for Your Next Adventure in Whistler. Located right next to the Whistler Conference Centre, the hub of our event, this hotel is our top recommendation for Academy attendees.
Our partners at the Aava Hotel are offering clinic participants a percentage off their stay at the Aava during the Academy. Please email backcountryacademy@arcteryx.com to receive your code.
If you're looking for a hotel with a little kitchenette to prepare breakfasts before you head out to take a clinic, we recommend The Summit Lodge. It's also the most pet friendly hotel in Whistler!
Our partners at the Summit Lodge are offering clinic participants a percentage off their stay at the Aava during the Academy. Please email backcountryacademy@arcteryx.com to receive your code.
We plan on hosting all clinics in backcountry areas near Whistler, BC such as Garabaldi Provincial Park and areas along Duffy Lake Road. Nevertheless, clinic locations are subject to change based on weather conditions and avalanche risk ratings. Should your clinic be impacted by weather conditions, we will work out an alternative plan with your group and guide.
To Check-in (Whistler Village): Yes. We will not be offering rides or transportation to Whistler from anywhere in Vancouver or the lower mainland.
To Garabaldi Provincial Park & Inbounds Clinics: For all clinics taking place in Garabaldi Provincial Park, you will need transportation to Whistler, BC however, you will be able to leave your car parked in Whistler Village for the day.
To Duffy: For all clinics that will be travelling up Duffy Lake Road, we will be offering a shuttle that will both drop-off and pick-up participants at the trailheads. More information and booking will be available in the coming months.
Weather and conditions are unpredictable year-round and constantly affect the decisions we make in planning and executing each trip. If conditions do not prove adequate to complete a specific objective in your trip plan, we will have a contingency plan for an alternative objective. If your trip is affected by the weather, you will be contacted as soon as possible.
We do our best to provide the best experience possible under every circumstance. It is not practical for us to issue refunds whenever a client is unsatisfied with the weather. If you have a specific objective in mind, you should understand that while we will do everything in our power to make this happen, your safety will be our priority. An alternate route/plan may be necessary.
Yes, please bring your own equipment to use on the clinics. Ensure it's properly labelled so it is easily identifiable at the end of the day. We do not take responsibility for lost equipment that is left behind.
Please note, we will have a limited number or demo gear onsite and items will be rented on a first-come-first-served based so it is not recommended to rely on a demo for your clinic. If you require a gear rental please ensure you coordinate this in advance of your clinic taking place.
